At Oculto 477 we want to pay reverence to all that came before us and the history that allows us to enjoy freedom today!
Cocktails have a strong connection with American culture: British Punches (big bowls of spirits mixed with fruit juice, spices, and other flavors) served in the 18th century may be known as the first form of cocktails but it was in the USA.
From 1920 to 1936, Americans were faced with prohibition laws from the Federal government. However, bartending culture remained alive throughout prohibition. Working in underground speakeasies, bartenders continued to innovate. Some had fled to work in the best hotel bars in Europe and came back after Prohibition with a complete new set of ideas inspired by their travels!
We hope to pay them reverence and introduce you to our favorite recipes. Our menu is here to surprise you. Our unique tasting experiences are here to bring you into the world of spirits.

What is a cocktail?
The full meaning of a cocktail got defined in 1806, when The Balance and Columbian Repository of Hudson, New York, pinned the cocktail down to what we follow today: “a stimulating liquor composed of any kind of sugar, water and bitters”, vulgarly called a bittered sling.
At Oculto 477, we aim to give reverence to the cocktail mastery that preceded us. Our cocktails carry the weight of their history.
